The weather forecast this weekend is hot and dry, quite a contrast to the wind and cold we've been having the last couple of days (forgive me, East Coasters - I'm a native Los Angeles girl, so 60 degrees is frigid weather in my world). Apparently we're going to have 90 degree temperatures this weekend, which seems like a great time to take your pooch to play on the beach, right?

Well, not so fast. According to the Santa Monica Visitors Bureau website, there's a "no dog" rule in Santa Monica on the beach. What does this mean, exactly? No dogs at all? No dogs off-leash? How is this possible? I've seen dogs on the beach in Santa Monica before, I'm sure of it.

Maybe I was wrong. Maybe it was Malibu, and dogs are allowed on their beaches. Right? Nope, wrong again. According to the City of Malibu website, no dogs are allowed on any Malibu beach at any time, and you may be cited if you bring your dog (even on leash) to the beach!

So, after some research, it seems that the only place your furry friend is allowed, heading northbound on Pacific Coast Highway, is Leo Carrillo State Beach, near the Ventura County Line. For me, this is a pretty long drive, but maybe it's a closer commute for you. If you know anything about this beach, please let me know!

Heading southbound, apparently there's an off-leash dog park on the beach in Long Beach - this would be like heaven for my dog, so I may check it out this weekend. It's in Belmont Shore, 3 acres of off-leash bliss, between Argonne and Roycroft Avenues.

But really, why is it so hard to find a place where your dog is allowed on the beach? I understand the sanitary issues but let's face it, our beaches aren't really such healthy places to swim anyway. So why not let our pets have a good time, get some exercise, and provide us pet parents an opportunity to spend some time sun worshiping?

If you know whether these beach rules are actually enforced, or if  you've got any other secret special beach spots for your pooch, please share them with us!
