Rest up this weekend because next weekend Dance DC Festival 2009 will have you on your feet up and moving all weekend long with free workshops and perfomances all over the city. Friday August 28
At noon, head over the the National Zoo for All Around the Big Ol' World--storytelling, song and dance with local performers and special guests, The Backyardigans.
Take a journey to another world with Dhoonya Dance School and others at Live! A Bollywood Experience at 7pm at the Atlas Performing Arts Theatre. the event's opening night performance and there will be a reception at 6pm.
Saturday August 29
Take advantage of the opportunity to learn about dances from Africa, Europe and India suring Ready.Set.Dance! at Dance Place in NE, starting at 1:30. Or you can explore the rhythms and dances of Africa and India at the Dance Institute of Washington in NW starting at 1pm
The National Museum of the American Indian will feature performances of Hawaiian Hula and Capoeira at noon for the NativeLand event.
Check out a fusion of the music of Togo and 70s Afrofunk with So Melodic at Bohemian Caverns, starting at 4pm.
DC's own musical styles will be showcased during Take Me Out the the Go-Go! at the Anacostia Art Gallery and Boutique where EU will be among the performers.
Sunday August 30
Start the afternoon (or day depending on when you get up) off with Jammin' Java--Ebenezer's Coffee House will have Latin folk music to go along with your coffee.
At 5pm, East Meets West at the Heritage Center at the Navy Memorial where KanKouran West African Dance Company, Ancient Rhythms Dance Company and Bliss Ananda will present dance forms from West Africa and the Middle East.
Two other great events also start at 5pm that day--Dancing Under the Stars will be an evening of workshops and performances on hand dancing at Ft. Dupont Park. And the Honfleur Gallery will host Symhphony! where you can hear a blend of the jazz and tango.
