Now that you have seen (or avoided) certain summer blockbusters, it is time to turn your attention to movie fare that is a little more off the beaten path…

Attend free screenings of films from Asia, Latin America and Africa at three different DC venues until the end of this month. Le Festival des 3 Continents  began last month. but since it runs until July 29, you still have time to see some great foreign films.

By presenting more than 80 films every year, this festival has helped audiences connect with hundreds of films that they might not have seen otherwise. Since this year is the festival's 30th anniversary, you will be able to see films that span past 30 years, some of which rarely get public screenings.

Asian films

Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery (free tickets, with a limit of two per person, are distributed one hour before show time)

Independence Ave. at 12th Street, Washington, DC

Latin American films

National Gallery of Art (free, first-come, first-served seating)

4th Street at Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, DC

African films

La Maison Française (free admission, but you must make a reservation online)

4101 Reservoir Rd. NW
