When I was a kid I read C.S. Lewis's The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and it mentioned Turkish Delight . I couldn't imagine what that was, but I was certainly intrigued. Back then, Turkey seemed as far away as the imaginary lands mentioned in the book.
If you feel that you know very little about Turkish culture, tomorrow you will have a chance to explore it more at the Turkish Festival from 10am to 6pm at Freedom Plaza and on Pennsylvania Ave. NW between 13th and 14th streets.
Listen to live music and watch dance performances that demonstrate Turkey's connections to the peoples and cultures of the Middle East, Central Asia, the Caucasus Mountains and the Balkans.
More than 25 vendors will be there at the Turkish Bazaar with accessories like Turkish jewelry, hip scarves, shawls and home decoration like pottery.
The festival is free and if you are not in the mood to shop, you can try an exciting array of activities for kids and adults. Try calligraphy, tile-making and carpet-weaving.
If all of this fun makes you hungry, you will be able to try Turkish delights like kabobs, pastries and Turkish coffee.
