Tonight was the kickoff for this year's Duke Ellington Jazz Festival, but don't worry if you missed the festivities, it was invitation-only. The are still plenty of festivals events that do not require an invite. You have until next Tuesday (October 7) to join in the fun. The Duke Ellington Jazz Festival has a lineup of local, national and international artists who will be gracing neighborhoods all over town with the sounds of jazz.
Here are some of the ways you can jazz up your weekend:
Saturday, October 4 is Jazz n' Families Fun Day on the Mall. You can see some young jazz musicians: the Louisville Leopard Percussionists, ages 7-12, will be one of the groups perfoming.
Later that evening, catch Steve Herberman on Solo Guitar at The Joan Hisaoka Healing Arts Gallery at Smith Farm at 7:30 pm.
And on Sunday, October 5 the lineup includes Taj Mahal, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Afro Blue and others on the National Mall at the Sylvan Amphitheatre at 12:00 pm
