Last night, I had the fortune to host a panel discussion on socialized medicine at the Reagan Republican Club meeting in Long Green. The panel included three U.S. citizens who had immigrated from other countries, namely Ireland, United Kingdom, and the Czech Republic.
The panelists described their experiences with socialized medicine. The stories ranged from relatively minor inconveniences and waiting periods to horrific accounts under the Czech system.
The panelists were just ordinary citizens, not professional public speakers or political leaders. The each love America and were willing to share their experiences for the sake of liberty. And make no mistake that it is liberty which is at stake.
What the panelists stressed was that the deterioration in medical services under a public plan is a slow, but steady process. It may not be immediately evident what is to come, but ten or twenty years down the road the results will be devastating.
They stated that free market systems cannot co-exist with government-run systems. You can’t mix a little of the public option with a private system without the eventual collapse of the private system.
The panelists were passionate about what they are seeing occur in America. They recognize the writing on the wall. They warned emphatically that, once the public system is in place, there is no reversing it. It is much easier to prevent the government from implementing the system that it is to undo it once in place.
The accounts from these patriotic citizens left the audience mesmerized, shocked, angry, scared, and hopefully motivated to take action.
There are upcoming rallies in the Baltimore area scheduled against government-run health care. Concerned citizens should contact the Reagan Republican Club via email at info@reaganrepublicanclub.com.
