Anyone who has driven around Anchorage, or who uses the People Mover bus system has got to have noticed this. Whenever the Municipality of Anchorage looks at equipment upgrades, why do they insist on these behemoth beasts that are the busses we end up with?
In the winter, the roads are narrow enough as it is. I know it has to be difficult to maneuver those dinosaurs around the city streets.
My question is this: Instead of a few very large busses, how about a fleet of smaller "airport shuttle" type vehicles that are more nimble. Seems reasonable to me. Run them to hit stops at every fifteen minutes instead of every half hour or so. I think this would add up to better customer service for the public transportation crowd and a more convenient schedule should increase the ridership.
Just something to think about.
