Landry Fields, who will be a senior at Stanford in the fall, apparently has figured out how to shoot free throws. Just a 65 percent shooter from the line during the Cardinal's 2008-2009 season, Fields can't seem to miss in the San Francisco Pro-Am summer basketball league.
After scoring 44 points in his previous game, Fields had 38 points on Wednesday to help his team, the Oakland Believers, outscore Bay City 119-110 at Kezar Pavilion in San Francisco.
The point production may not be his most significant summer accomplishment, though. The slender, 6-8 Fields went 12-for-12 from the foul line during that 44-point game, and on Wednesday he was 16-for-16 on free throws. The rims at Kezar Pavilion are forgiving, but going 28-for-28 over a two-game span is impressive stuff no matter how loose the iron is.
The fact that Fields got to the line so many times is a good sign as well, because the Cardinal will be relying heavily on Fields to supply offense this coming season.
The only other returning starter from last season's Stanford team, Josh Owens, also plays for the Oakland Believers. He continues to search for a comfort level and confidence on the floor, but he managed to score 20 points on Wednesday. Though he still is not completely sure of himself on the court, the 6-8 Owens is not afraid to take his shots in the Pro-Am. He attempted 15 shots on Wednesdayand made eight of them.
