The day before his departure to Las Vegas to play for the Golden State Warriors' summer-league team, former Stanford player Lawrence Hill spent Monday evening pouring in 31 points in a San Francisco Pro-Am basketball league game.

Despite his production, Hill missed three of four free throws in the closing seconds of regulation time on Monday that might have iced the game.  But he did enough in the overtime periods to help his team, Bay Raiders, beat Bay Pride 128-122 in double overtime at Kezar Pavilion.

Andrew Zimmerman, who enrolled in Stanford last month and will play for the Cardinal this coming season after transferring from Foothill College, was the starting center for Bay Pride.   The 6-9 Zimmerman, who will be a sopphomore this season, had nine rebounds and scored 11 of his 13 points in the second half to aid Bay Pride's fourth-quarter rally.  His three-point play with 1:02 left in regulation cut the Bay Raiders' lead to three, and he scored again with 40 seconds left to get the margin back down to three again.

Hill, who was a senior on this past season's 20-14 Cardinal team, could have put the game away when he went to the foul line with 11.4 seconds left and Bay Raiders leading by two, but he missed both free throws.   He made just one of two foul shots with 2.1 seconds left, giving his team a three-point lead.   But a wild three-pointer by Bay Pride's Chris Busch at the buzzer sent the game into overtime.

Hill scored eight points in the two overtime periods and was 4-for-4 from the foul line in the extra stanzas as Bay Raiders held on..

The 6-8 Hill also had nine rebounds and two blocks while hitting 11 of 18 shots, primarily playing inside.   Hill played power forward as a Stanford senior, and that's the position he played for the most part on Monday.  However, he will play on the perimeter for the Warriors' summer-league team, knowing he must play small forward to latch on to an NBA team.    He was scheduled to depart today (Tuesday) for Las Vegas, meet his coaches and teammates on Wednesday and play his first summer-league game Friday in his attempt to make the Warriors' roster.   On Monday, Hill showed the ball-handling skills he will need to prove he can play the small-forward spot.  On one possession, he brought the ball upcourt on his own and dribbled skillfully through two defenders on his way to a driving layup.   But most of his work on Monday came on the low blocks.   He missed his only three-point attempt of the night, but drew the evening's loudest reaction from the crowd when he slammed a two-handed dunk over Zimmerman.

On Tuesday, we will present a brief interview with Hill.
