After leading the Minnesota Lynx to two victories last week, former Stanford star Candice Wiggins on Monday was named WNBA player of the week, sharing the honor with Indiana's Tamika Catchings.
This was the first player of the week award for Wiggins, a second-year pro, and she did it by averaging 23.5 points, 4.5 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals in Minnesota's two games last week, both of which the Lynx won. Wiggins' contributions were critical because the Lynx lost their top scorer, Seimone Augustus, for the season two weeks ago with a torn anterior-cruciate ligament.
The two wins helped the Lynx reclaim a share of first place in their division.
