Former Stanford star Nicole Powell had one of her most difficult night's on Friday, and, in a way, it demonstrated how valuable she is to the Sacramento Monarchs.
With Powell being held to a season-low two points, the Monarchs had little chance against the San Antonio Silver Stars, who walked away with a 62-52 WNBA victory over Sacramento in San Antonio.
The Monarchs rely on Powell for much of their success, and she had been averaging 16.8 points and 6.2 rebounds coming into Friday's game. Her previous season-low of eight points had come in the opener, and she had at least three rebounds in every game until Friday, when she had just one board.
Early foul trouble was a problem for Powell, who picked two fouls in the first quarter. She ended up going 1-for-7 from the field , and her only points came less than three minutes into the game. Powell missed all four of her three-point attempts.
Powell was not the only Monarchs player who struggled offensively. The Monarchs scored just seven points in the first quarter and were never able to get back in the game.
One bright spot for Powell came on the defensive end, where she had four steals.
