Landy Fields was so much better than everyone else on the floor during Stanford's intrasquad scrimmage on Tuesday that it's difficult to know what to think.

Does it suggest Fields has improved to the point where he should be considered one of the very best players in the Pac-10?    Or is it reflective of the deficiencies of the surrounding talent?

Whatever the reason, Fields scored 31 points in a game that lasted just 30 minutes with players frequently changing teams.    It should be noted again that this was just a scrimmage, and Stanford did not have its entire roster available.  Two starters, Jeremy Green and Josh Owens, sat out, leaving just seven scholarship players in uniform, and that includes Jack Trotter, a former non-scholarship player who was awarded a scholarship in the offseason.

Trotter turned out to be one of the more productive players on Tuesday, but the most impressive player, other than Fields, was a player who is still a walk-on, Emmanuel Igbinosa.  He is not flashy and his shot is kind of funky, but he looks calm and comfortable on the floor, seems to have a pretty good feel for the game, knows what he can and can't do on the court, and did not make any glaring mistakes Tuesday.  Plus he scored 18 points while hitting three 3-pointers.    Whether that will earn him consideration for playing time in the backcourt remains to be seen.  Afterall, he is a senior who has played in just four games in his Stanford career.

At the moment Igbinosa is not one of the four players getting a look at point guard, which is Johnny Dawkins' biggest concern.   Senior Drew Shiller, junior Da'Veed Dildy, sophomore Jarrett Mann and freshman Gabriel Harris all played some point during the scrimmage, and none distinguished himself, although Mann did show an ability to get to the basket off the dribble.  Harris does appear to be completely recovered from his offseason knee problems, however.

At this point, it's hard to predict what Stanford's starting lineup will be, except that it will include Fields.

Stanford's first and only exhibition game is Nov. 6 against Sonoma State, and it opens its regular season on the road against San Diego on Nov. 13.
