Tip of the week - water your insides daily
We've all heard that it's important to drink water. Some people drink plenty of it, but many of us fall short. Often water is replaced with sugary beverages such as sodas or sports drinks like Gatorade. Have you ever read the ingredients on a Gatorade label? There are plenty of ingredients in there that probably shouldn't be going into our bodies - wood rosin and Red 4 anyone? Basically, nothing can replace drinking plain old water, and you should include drinking water as part of your daily routine.
Here’s a tip: think of drinking water as giving your body its inner shower. You probably shower as part of your daily routine. This cleanses your outside, so why not give your insides the same treatment? Since most of us don’t shower in Gatorade or Pepsi, why would we shower our insides with all those sugars and chemicals?
Try putting a glass of water by your bed at night, and when you wake up in the morning - drink it! Drink it before you even get out of bed. If you can do this for a week, you will notice a difference in your energy and mood, especially in the morning. Starting your day by drinking a glass of water helps you get into the water habit. It’s also cleansing, ridding your body of waste and toxins. If you drink coffee in the morning, drinking a glass of water first will help to hydrate your body.
Here are some other benefits of drinking more water:
- Increases energy
- Aids in weight loss
- Helps your heart
- Promotes healthy skin
- Reduces risk of cancer
- Helps prevent and cure headaches caused by dehydration
If you want to replace lost electrolytes in your body, which is often the reason people turn to sports drinks like Gatorade, try drinking 100% coconut water. Coconut water - not to be confused with coconut milk - has the same electrolytic balance as our blood. It is all natural with no added sugars, coloring or artificial flavors, making it a much healthier alternative to sports drinks.
