It would be hard to find a better precursor for an album than Ty Segall’s new seven-inch on Goner Records. The San Francisco psychedelic/garage/folkster’s latest vinyl release, “Cents” b/w “No,No” and “Standing at the Station” is a wonderfully pure slab of honest-to-God garage music that whets the appetite for his upcoming LP from Goner, “Lemons” (Due out July 14th).
Lo-fi but catchy, with no-nonsense chords and vocals that are reminiscent of psychedelic Brit weirdo Big Boy Pete, the three songs live and breathe with a kind of ethereal-yet-dirty sincerity. One should expect nothing less from a label like Goner, which has been releasing some of the best garage rock in the universe for well over a decade (ie. CoCoComa, The Carbonas, Guitar Wolf and The Barbaras, to name just a few).
The first pressing is on clear vinyl and is almost sold out, but don’t hesitate to settle for a plain old black vinyl copy. It’s well worth the $4.99 + shipping cost.
Don't miss Ty Segall live in LA at The Smell on July 8.
