Sing Sing Records, a cool newcomer to the punk/powerpop reissue scene, has released a small-but-growing roster of lovingly produced records that began in March of this year.
Belfast’s Rudi, Hertfordshire’s Jetz and other underrated and mostly undiscovered acts have been given star vinyl treatment, with quality pressings and beautifully printed sleeves.
Sing Sing number 06 is from the Netherlands De Cylinders, a solid six piece powerpop act that, according to the label’s notes, played live alongside acts like the Pretenders and Ultravox in the late ‘70s.
The record, “I Wanna Get Married” b/w “Looking For Work,” recorded and released in 1979, was the first of three singles De Cylinders released on the CNR label. Ebullient, laced with catchy keyboards and driven vocals from singer Jolanda Markus, the record is likely to get stuck in your head with all the swelling, sweet catchiness of the best ‘70s powerpop.
