Whether you think of Elizabeth Taylor or The Home Shopping Network when you hear "cocktail ring,"  these rings have become the latest must-have in the oversized accessory trend. This may not be first time that you have considered wearing a bold ring to compliment your formal attire, but now the eye-catching jewelry can even be chicly worn with a simple tank top and your favorite pair of jeans. Interested? Although you may consider yourself a fashionista, you may still be somewhat weary of wearing a large hand ornament with your distressed denim. Here are a few pointers to help you enjoy this trend even if you are not planning on attending any awards shows or celebrity parties:

• Avoid large, 1-stone pieces (Photo: http://elitechoice.org). A large, single cubic zirconia or other imitation gem screams "COSTUME JEWELRY." Although cocktail rings are intended to be loud and flashy, you should stray away from pieces that appear to be cheap. Semi-precious gems, grouped stones, and precious metals can make your cocktail ring sparkle without making it look like you lucked up on your new jewelry after putting 25 cents into a machine.
• Don't over-oversize your ring (Photo: www.ljcfyi.com/labels/jewelry.html). If you have smaller hands, a cocktail ring can look ridiculously huge on your finger. Oversized accessories are very trendy this year, but know which rings look trendy and which rings appear to be inappropriately sized for your finger. If you have larger hands, keep in mind that some rings may look less exaggerated on your fingers. Larger, bolder pieces should be used to achieve eye-catching looks.
• Limit yourself to wearing one statement piece of jewelry at a time.  If you do wear more than one oversized piece, be careful not to drown yourself in accessories (Photo: www.pardonmeduke.com) . Of course wearing a cocktail ring does not mean that you cannot wear other pieces of jewelry; just keep in mind that piling on flashy accessories can end up being quite tacky.
