Described as innovative, unique, edgy, adamas fashion house, located in Historic Ghent is not your average clothing store. What makes adamas different? I sat down with Chris, owner and operator of adamas to discuss the store and explore the one of  a kind creations inside.

♦The origination of adamas♦

"adamas originally started out as a ladies clothing label. The idea behind the label was to graphically depict stories with each collection much like the way designers tell stories with their garment collection on the runway. When we opened our store front adamas became not only a showroom for our past screen prints and future cut and sew, but also a home for other designers local and abroad."

♦From the minds of fashion geniuses, a house of fashion is born♦

"It took the hard work of the adamas starting team—Eddie Johnson- graphic designer, Adrienne Taylor- marketing director and Summer Carson and myself- designers. Together we birthed Adamas and raised it from an idea to a label carried by local stores on both sides of the water. After college the talented team grew and pursued new adventures and I took the label from screen prints to cut and sew and created adamas fashion house."

♦The adamas shopping experience♦

"Fashion-lovers can find an array of unique pieces at adamas. Everything from one of a kind hand made jewelry, accessories and handbags to hand sewn one of one garments, vintage finds and reconstructed pieces. You won’t find bulk quantities at adamas, we usually carry 1 in each size so our guest do not have to worry about seeing themselves coming when they’re out. We never re-order a piece, commission designers to reproduce or have a artisan remake jewelry items."

The adamas clothing line debuted at a 2006 oceanfront release party. Less than two years later, the house of fashion was created and the doors were open to the public in March 2008. Deviating from catalog fashions found in malls and department stores, adamas introduces emerging designers, exclusive designs and unique labels to Hampton Roads' fashionistas. An unparalelled approach to fashion along with a stylish well-designed store front and a resourceful group of designers have created adamas, a house of fashion like no other!

Plan a fashionable 4th of July with a few tips from Norfolk's own adamas fashion house!

Wearing patriotic colors: Subtle works—you don’t need to wear a flag to get your point across. White dress, red pump shows you support your country. Same works for majority blue with a red clutch. Be careful going majority red.

→Summer trends: The trend isn’t what your favorite celeb is wearing; the trend this summer is be ready for a change! Dress for the day, but keep the evening in mind.

-if you work during the day, throw a light weight cropped blazer over a strapless knee-length little black dress. Pin up curls off of the neck line to expose your collar and light neutral make up for the office. After work, lose the blazer, let your hair down, grab the stand-out pumps you stashed in your trunk, tint your lips and go!

-if for some strange reason you don’t work during the day, start out with an easy to wear light wash denim, comfy shoes and a side seamed tee for the contoured look. A few bangles, a dangling necklace, neutral face and loose hair works. When that unexpected party pops up; call on the heels in your trunk which happen to be laying next to your dark wash boot cut denim and that work blazer. Tease your hair a bit, tint your lips and go!

→Beachwear: What’s better than the obvious beach cover up? The re-purposed beach cover-up. Look through your wardrobe for tunic lengths, light mini’s, sheer fabrics, oversized tops and linen, they can make for great fashionable layering pieces at the beach.

→4th of July accessories: We don’t always know what we’re doing for the 4th, but we can pretty much assume it will be hot. Try oversized frames to keep the sun out, long dainty earrings that move when you do and a breathable straw clutch or an oversized waterproof bottom bag in case the tide comes up further then expected.

→Rainy 4th? Doesn’t matter. If you’ve been following along you have a straw clutch, waterproof bag, a selection of light layering pieces and in your trunk a change of shoes and a cropped jacket. Just tint your lips and go!
