It is that time of year in Florida. The time when rates go up as the snowbirds come down. With that being said I had the opportunity to play one of the more challenging public courses in the Orlando area the other day for a reasonable rate. Due to some tournament replay rounds I received a few months ago, thankfully. Timacuan, which is located just off of both I-4 and the 408 in Lake Mary offers many fine amenities for players. From the spacious driving range to a huge clubhouse Timacuan is an excellent place to go if you are looking for a 1st class experience at a reasonable rate.
However, on this day it played more like August National due to a stiff breeze all day. The course offers a nice challenge on 17th of the holes, and an absolute nightmare on the other one. We decided to play our round from the tips, and after starting on the back made out way to #2. On the scorecard it is a difficult par 4 but in reality it is way beyond that especially playing into the wind as it did on Saturday. With a fairway with water in play on the left and in play on the right and measure at over 420 yds from the back it is a bear. Not to mention the water coming back into play in front of the green. All around this hole is just a snowman waiting to happen.
I highly recommend playing Timacuan, but beware of #2 :)
