Mickey Andrews looks like a different man.
The defensive coordinator looks a far cry from what he was a week ago today.
Last Tuesday, Andrews announced he would not return for another season as defensive coordinator at Florida State University. The 26-year assistant to coach Bowden cited family as his reasoning as he has plenty of grandchildren to spend time with.
From that moment on, Andrews looks like a man who has had the weight of the world lifted off his shoulders.
While it’s still evident that missed assignments, out of position defenders, and mistackles still bother him, he isn’t letting them wreck his world anymore.
Publicly, Andrews would never admit such a thing. He is too much of a professional – has too much pride for that.
When asked about it on Monday at the weekly coordinators press confernce, Andrews denied it, but denied it with a smile.
“I don’t feel any different just because it’s out,” Andrews said. “I’m going to stay the same as last week.”
But the reality is that Andrews is different.
He is a man that is seeing the big picture. Andrews has prioritized what is really important in life. While football is and always has been something Andrews has cherished, his family takes priority.
And good for him.
