Perhaps you have a wonderful exotic pet that fills your life with such joy that you want to spread it with others. There is an organization in Washington D.C. where you can do just that, called PALS which stands for People. Animals. Love.
Pals was founded in 1981 to bring animals to the wounded and socially isolated as a means of healing. Pals works through Pal teams, usually a team of one or two people and an PAL pet that bring love and healing to those that need it most. Pals volunteers visit nursing homes, hospitals, children's hospitals, and other facilities spreading love and healing through animal companionship.
Pals has many programs available from the Pal After School Club, Pet Visiting, Pal Club, and a Pet Loss Hot line.
If you are interested in volunteering with your exotic pet for Pals just click on the volunteer link on the PALS homepage . The only requirements are that pets be friendly and get along with other pets and humans. "Pals will certify dogs, birds, and various, 'pocket pets', such as guinea pigs, rabbits and hamsters." (http://www.peopleanimalslove.org/volunteer.php) etc... You can visit their website for an orientation package and complete list of guidelines and information.
