Every spring, as the seasons change, and Charlotte starts to get that funny, in-between weather (you know, cool in the morning, but BLAZING hot in the afternoon?!?), women start packing up their heavy winter sweaters and pulling out the good-ole spring staples. Occasionally, that might mean adding a new piece or two to the wardrobe. Now, especially in this economy, one shouldn’t have to break the bank when it comes to new spring threads.  But, where does one begin to seek out their low-cost, high-fashion threads in Charlotte? Check out the guide below for hot spots all across the Charlotte Metro area and get your search on!

  1. Goodwill International: Good will can be a hit or miss, but certain neighborhood Goodwill stores can supply a thrifty shopper with vintage Louis Vuitton bags, cute J. Crew ankle pants, and the occasional (and preppy staple) Ralph Lauren Polo shirt in your favorite pastel color. With prices ranging from $3.49 to $5.00 per piece, you can afford to pick up a couple of new pieces and add in some funky jewelry and accessories to complete the look!
  2. Plato’s Closet: Plato’s closet is another second-hand consignment shop, like Goodwill, but it caters to the teenage and young twenty-something year old. This store always carries items from trendy stores such as Forever 21, Abercrombie and Fitch, and Delia’s. I personally prefer the denim section and handbag section, as everything is easily divided by size and color! The only downfall to this store is that, if you’re a plus size fashionista, pickings are slim to none!
  3. Concord Mills - Right outside the Mecklenburg County lines, Charlotte women can find a plethora of factory outlet stores ranging from basic staple suppliers such as The Gap to trendier, risqué fashions from BCBG. Sign up for weekly e-mail announcements for sales from many of the manufacturers here for DOUBLE DISCOUNTS (i.e,. Off Saks 5th Avenue recently e-mailed an additional 40% off savings to customers who signed up for their weekly e-mail announcements!!!).

Another affordable fashion gems around Charlotte include your local TJ Maxx and Marshall’s for clothing, handbags and shoes; trendy junior stores such as Forever 21 and Wet seal for accessories, and check for coupons in newspapers around major holidays (I.e., Memorial Day) for extra savings at local department stores. Use online coupon finders (a great one is www.retailmenot.com) in case you don’t get the local newspaper! Happy Spring Shopping!
