You always hear talk about how much money a movie makes at the box office. Usually such conversations will include films such as Titanic and how it took in over $600 million in domestic box office sales and sits alone at the top of that list. Then there was The Dark Knight, a distant second at just over $533 million in domestic ticket sales. You may even talk about how much profit these films made at the box office. Not all movies get to brag about being “in the black” when it comes to whether or not the film turned a profit at the theaters.

Did you ever ask yourself what were some of the worst flops of all-time? Which films lost a lot of money at the box office? Well, fear not. You will find some of the most notorious losers right here.

Simply click on the movie title to navigate to the article about each individual film to get all the juicy statistics and as you peruse through these pages, ask yourself who is held responsible when a movie tanks so hard. After all, we are talking millions and millions of dollars wasted on these films, some of which have some pretty big stars in them.

These are in no particular order except for number 1 since it is actually in the “Guinness Book of World Records” as the lowest grossing film of all time. Click on it to find out why.

1) ZYZZYX Road (2005)
2) Battlefield Earth (2000)
3) The Adventures of Pluto Nash (2002)
4) Heaven’s Gate (1980)
5) Town and Country (2001)
6) Cleopatra (1963)
7) Hudson Hawk (1991)
8) Cutthroat Island (1995)
9) Ishtar (1987)
10) The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (1988)
11) Howard the Duck (1986)
12) The Postman (1997)
13) Meet Dave (2008)
14) Speed Racer (2008)

This is not necessarily the “Top 14 biggest money losers of all time,” but rather just a glimpse at some of the more notorious and some recent flops.

*** On a personal note, I actually saw the real ZYZZYX Road during a cross-country trip I took with my family as we drove through the desert near Las Vegas. At the time, I had no idea there was a film named after it. I wonder why I had never heard of it?
