Biggest box office bombs: # 8 - Cutthroat Island (1995)
“The Course Has Been Set. There Is No Turning Back. Prepare Your Weapons. Summon Your Courage. Discover the Adventure of a Lifetime!”
The eighth film on the list of biggest box office bombs is Cutthroat Island. This swashbuckling disaster starred Matthew Modine and Geena Davis. Modine was offered the role after Michael Douglas turned down $15 million to do the film. It was also offered to and subsequently turned down by Tom Cruise, Daniel Day-Lewis, Jeff Bridges, Michael Keaton, Charlie Sheen, Liam Neeson, and Tim Robbins. You would think that if all these seasoned actors turned down the same film, that perhaps they saw nothing good about it. But hey, what do actors know, right? Oh, by the way, the studio behind the film, Carolco Pictures, went bankrupt after this fiasco.
