At the number 1 spot on the “total box office revenue” list is Julia Roberts. Julia Fiona Roberts was born on October 28, 1976 in Smyrna, Georgia. Julia has one daughter and two sons. Her daughter and older son are twins born in 2004. Her younger son was born in 2007. All three children are with her husband, Daniel Moder. They were married in 2002.

Julia’s film debut was Blood Red. It co-starred her brother Eric and was filmed in 1986. It did not release until 1989 and only did so regionally. Her first wide-released film was Satisfaction in 1988. Roberts’s first leading role was in 1988’s Mystic Pizza. She received her first Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her part in the 1989 film Steel Magnolias. Her breakout role would come the following year with Pretty Woman. She received her first Best Actress Academy Award nomination, and paired with Richard Gere for the first time, in that film. In 1993, she paired with Denzel Washington in the drama/thriller The Pelican Brief. Julia’s next hit comedy would come in 1997 with My Best Friend’s Wedding, co-starring Cameron Diaz. She would follow that up with two more big comedies in 1999: Runaway Bride and Notting Hill. The next year she would win an Academy Award for her role in Erin Brokovich, a story about a legal secretary who helped put together a class action lawsuit against a company for poisoning a water supply (based on a true story). She would continue her stellar career starring in films like: Ocean’s Eleven, Ocean’s Twelve, Mona Lisa Smile and Charlie Wilson’s War. Julia Roberts has had a few blockbusters during her time, but she has been a box office star for nearly her entire career, having very few “misses” that did not draw large crowds. Looking at the rest of the list, it’s easy to see that Julia Roberts has earned the # 1 spot. Her total box office revenue is also # 10 overall, including the male actors, putting her one spot behind Samuel Jackson and one spot ahead of Orlando Bloom.

Total box office revenue of her films: $2.31 billion

Total number of films*: 33

Return to Top 10 list.

* This does not count cameos, small voice work, or movies that omitted gross earnings
