At the number 8 spot on the “total box office revenue” list is Halle Berry. Halle Marie Berry was born on August 14, 1966 in Cleveland, Ohio. Halle was born to an African American father and an English, Caucasian mother. Halle’s mother raised her two girls alone after their father abandoned the family around 1970. Halle’s own daughter was born on March 16, 2008. Her baby’s father is Gabriel Aubry.

Berry’s professional career in the spotlight did not start on the sliver screen. Halle began modeling at a young age, and won her first major event in 1984 representing the state of Ohio in the Miss Teen All-American Pageant. In 1986 she was the first runner-up in the Miss USA Pageant. In the late 1980s and early 1990s Halle had some recurring roles on a couple different TV shows. Her first feature film role came in 1991 when she appeared in Spike Lee’s Jungle Fever (she would also meet and date Wesley Snipes while working on the project). Her breakout performance (in my mind anyway) was in 1995 when she starred in Losing Isaiah, playing a rehabilitated drug addict trying to regain custody of her son. If you have not seen this film yet, please do. It is a great movie and Berry and Jessica Lange are both phenomenal. In 1999, Berry had the huge honor of being the first black woman to be nominated for a Best Actress Academy Award for Introducing Dorothy Dandridge. Two years later, Halle was honored again by being the first black woman to actually win the Best Actress Academy Award for Monster’s Ball. Halle Berry has earned some great opportunities during her career, and with them, she has truly shined.
