Walt Disney Pictures will be bringing The Sorcerer's Apprentice to the live action movie screen on July 16, 2010. You may remember the basic plot from an older animated Disney tale starring Mickey Mouse as the sorcerer's apprentice. The live action film version coming next year will be along the same lines. This time, however, it is set in Manhattan as an older, experienced sorcerer tries to train his apprentice in the ways of magic.
Variety reports that Monica Belluci will be joining the cast as a sorceress and love interest to Nicholas Cage's character. Cage plays the older, experienced sorcerer. Rounding out the cast is Jay Baruchel (recently in Tropic Thunder and Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist), Teresa Palmer, Alfred Molina, Peyton List, and Tobey Kebbell. It appears from production stills, though still unconfirmed at this time, that Jay Baruchel will be playing the role of the young apprentice. Jon Turteltaub will be directing and Jerry Bruckheimer is slated as one of the producers, but it remains to be seen how much he will be involved, or if Disney just wants to have his name attached.
You may remember a news story about a car chase scene from this film going wrong and leading to an accident that injured several people in New York. Below is a news clip of that accident. Fortunately, no one was seriously hurt.
