The "Jonah Hex" comic book character will be given a movie, and yes, Megan Fox will be handing out more eye candy!

In the theme of movie announcements for 2010, I bring you another comic book movie based on a lesser-known character. August 6th of next year will be the day Jonah Hex makes the leap from the pages of comics to the screens of the theaters.

Picture this: The Man With No Name (Clint Eastwood) from A Fistful of Dollars meets the outlaw Jesse James. Then throw in the classic tormented soul, tip-toeing that line between good and evil like Batman. This will give you a “tip of the iceberg” view of the character Jonah Hex. He was originally introduced in “All-Star Westerns” in the 1970s until getting his own series in 1977 that ran for about 10 years. The character was brought back again in 2005. I found his background posted identically in several places. I don’t know who originally wrote this, so, I will simply quote it here:

Jonah has battled alcoholism, and as an adult faced his mother's turn to prostitution. Though he traveled extensively throughout the American West, he also ended up in South America and China. At one point he quit bounty hunting, got married and had a son, and took up farming, though it didn't last.

Hex's facial injuries can be traced back to being sold into slavery by his father to the Apache for safe passage. Jonah eventually saved the chief from being killed by a mountain lion and was made an honorary member of the tribe. He was soon betrayed by the envious son of the chief while on a raid. He returned years later to challenge him in a sacred tomahawk battle. But the chief's son sabotaged Jonah's tomahawk and Jonah used his knife in self-defense when the tomahawk broke. The tribe saw this as breaking the rules of the sacred battle and sentenced Jonah to wear the mark of the demon by pressing a searing hot tomahawk to his face. They said his honorary relationship to the chief was the only thing that saved him from death.

The film version due out next year stars Josh Brolin (recently in W. and Milk), John Malkovich, Megan Fox, Will Arnett and Michael Shannon. Again, I will be updating you about this film as more information surfaces.
