If you're a girl, or know a girl, or have ever seen a girl, especially in the month of October, you might know about that little corner of girl heaven, Halloween costumes. If you've seen the movie Mean Girls, you'll understand what I'm about to tell you. It's the girls plus Halloween equals slut equation. As described in that cinematic Tour de Force; girls use Halloween costumes as an excuse to dress extremely suggestively. And why not? It's their holiday, their bodies, their decisions. Skeeze it up, ladies! However, there are those members of the girl population who don't want to show off copious amounts of skin during the month when it's just starting to get cold. They just don't want to be naughty nurses, cops, doctors, grocers, playboy bunnies and the like. However, this leaves female gamers who want to celebrate their love for games but aren't excited by the magic of less clothing in a bind. As we all know, video game related costumes that allow women to remain modest are few and far between. See BloodRayne, Lara Croft, any woman from any fighting series ... You get the idea. There are alternatives though, gamer ladies, and some of the alternatives are much cheaper and much easier costumes both in planning and implementation.

Two such costume ideas come from the mind-blowingly good game, Bioshock. Don't want to show off too much skin? Dress up like a Little Sister. Not only are you completely not a sex object, you've got dead-harvesting powers and the costume is incredibly simple. A dirty dress, flip flops, a white apron and a syringe (a turkey baster would probably work). Easy and ... Dignified even? As a bonus, get one of your friends to dress up like a Big Daddy. For even more 'cool' points, refuse to refer to your buddy as anything but Mr. Bubbles all night. Priceless! Another decent costume from the same game would be that of a splicer. Again, easy-peasy with a ripped dirty dress, ripped hose, a creepy white mask and some sort of crowbar or wrench-like weapon. To really take it to the next level you could take the hook from a Kitchen Aid mixer and carry that around with you. The best part about dressing up like a splicer could be the ability to be drunk and slurry while still demanding that you're only remaining 'in character.'

From the completely underrated and unappreciated Ubisoft gem, Beyond Good and Evil, comes a costume that's fun, different, and looks pretty easy to put together. Jade's green pants / green jacket / white tank top combo should be fairly easy to come by, and adding a camera to the ensemble shouldn't be one of those pain in the butt props at all -- really it's just an easy way to get plenty of pics of the party you're attending. Jade looks cute, kicks butt and is all the investigative photojournalist anyone can handle.

The final and perhaps my personal favorite costume on this list is the amazing Alexandra Roivas from Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. To say Eternal Darkness is a good game isn't giving Silicon Knights enough credit. While their latest IP didn't quite live up to the hype, Sanity's Requiem was like that landmine that exploded into Tony Stark in Iron Man. Instead of the evil shrapnel spreading throughout all of his internal organs, it's more like shrapnel of happiness, enjoyment and bliss spreading throughout the internal organs of gamers everywhere. That being said, the simplicity of Alexandra Roivas' outfit is refreshing to say the least. Jeans, a black tanktop, a blonde ponytail and a shotgun. The only thing you might actually have to purchase is a fake shotgun and that shouldn't be too expensive at all.
So go, run free, run wild. Enjoy your Halloween as a girl gamer without having to diet the whole month. Not all of us can pull off Nariko's outfit from Heavenly Sword and we just shouldn't have to. Happy Halloween, girl gamers!
