Each year, more than 42,000 people are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. More than 35,000 of those diagnosed are not able to beat it.
Pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest forms of cancer and one of the hardest to detect. It's referred to as the "silent killer" because in its early stages it often does not exhibit any symptoms.
In an effort to increase awareness of the disease, the Manhattan affiliate of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) is kick-starting November, deemed National Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month, by hosting a 1-,2-, and 3-mile walk on the Upper West Side.
PurpleStride Manhattan takes place on Sunday, November 8, at 10:00 AM on 83rd Street and Riverside Drive and includes music, childrens’ activities, beverages and healthy snacks. The event was organized to raise money to go towards the fight against pancreatic cancer. While there is no cost to enter the walk, participants are encouraged to fundraise.
Join PanCAN and thousands of other New Yorkers and walk for a good cause. For more information, visit www.pancan.org.
