Adam/Rice Sports Information

Rice Owl decathlete Phillip Adam and distance runner Brett Olson have been selected to the First Team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® men's track & field/cross country team.

Adam notches his first Academic All-America award. The junior from Santa Maria, California holds a 3.94 GPA in economics. On the field, Adam placed first in the decathlon with a personal-best of 7,331 points at the C-USA Track & Field Championship. He would advance to finish 14th in the nation at the NCAA Outdoor Championship. His personal best and all-time high of 7,358 points during that competition, ranks second in Rice history.

Brett Olson hails from Flower Mound, Texas and recently graduated from Rice with a 3.93 GPA in Civil Engineering. Olson is now a two-time Academic All-America honoree after earning second team accolades last year. He took 18th place at the Conference USA Cross Country Championship. Olson finished in 8th and 9th places respectively in the 3000m and 5000m at the C-USA Indoor Championship. Olson took fifth place in the 3000m steeplechase during the C-USA Outdoor Championship.
