Sarah Palin, Governor of Alaska, has announced, that she is stepping down from being Governor and turning over the Governorship to her Lt. Governor. She also stated that she will not be running for re-election as Governor.
Pundits peculate that Palin, though not quite ready to the Vice Presidency in 2008, is gearing up to run for the Presidency in 2012. The question is, does Governor Palin have enough appeal to win her own party? When polled with potential candidate for the 2012 election, she came in 4th place. Governor Palin, has not mentioned any further aspiration for political office.
It was said in a article written by, Todd S. Purdum in last month's Vanity Fair,
Her appeal to people in the party (and in the country) who share her convictions and resentments is profound. The fascination is viral, and global.
Governor Palin, was the first woman and first Alaskan, to receive the nomination for Vice President by the Republican Party. She brought great life the, dying campaign of John McCain, rallying Evangelicals from every small town in America. Her special appeal was to women who saw her as a champion, caring both for her family and running the state.
It is not known if Governor Palin is preparing for the run in 2012 or is stepping away for politics at this time. With Plain's vast appeal among Christians nation-wide and Republican male hopefuls, dropping like flies, could she win the nomination for the next Presidential election? We will see!
