Help your aging parent to stay healthy

Your parents are the ones who have always taken care of you. As they get older, they might need more support and assistance in maintaining healthy living habits.  They cared for you when you could not care for yourself.  Your parents made sure you ate properly, had warm clothes in the winter and comforted you, when the other kids didn't let you play.  Now it is your turn to support you parent/s in a way, that will keep them healthy and perhaps help extend their lives.  Here are simple things you can do to help them.

Be informed: Research your parent/s medical conditions and medications. Learn about medications or food contradictions. Did you know that grapefruit hinders the affect of some medications? Knowing things like this can help prevent medical complications.  

Provide a water service: One of the greatest problems with seniors, is that they don't drink enough water. Dehydration is one of the leading caused of kidney problems with seniors. Ordering a water service to deliver water on a regular basis, can help them to drink more water.
 
Provide a meal-time companion: Arrange for someone to come by and eat one or two means with your senior parent/s. Seniors sometime forget to eat and having someone to eat with, is encouraging and will help them to eat more regularly and maintain a healthy weight.here are companies that make kitchen utensil aid for seniors
 
Exercise:  Many Medicare Part B coverage offer free gym benefits for seniors.  Check their plan to check for that benefit and arrange for trasportation for them to go two or three times a week.

Exercise: Encouraging exercise, will help with mobility, weight loss and improve overall health and mood. Also, many Medicare part B coverage includes a free gym membership for seniors. 

Encourage the whole family to be involved in this endeavor,  If you get resistance from your parent/s, try to approach with a gentler touch.
