The Beast Women performance group is starting their winter series this evening at 10:30 pm. Their website asserts that the group’s shows are “celebrating freedom, sexuality, life oddities, and primal strength found in all women.”
The Beast Women shows are cabaret style performances that feature many different types of performances (including monologues, comedy, dance, spoken work, music, and combinations of the genres). Every show will surely offer something that will please everyone.
The shows have given exposure to a large variety of rising gutsy female performers as well as talented long time performers. The performances take place at the Prop Theater at 3502
The cover charge is $15 for all shows. I’m hoping someone will offer me some comps (hint hint), but if former performances are any indication, the show is well worth the cost.
Tonight’s performance will include performance art by Jillian Erickson; standup comedy by Bridget Clymore (who did some nice performances at the late, lamented Mercury Café); belly dancing from Mahira; burlesque by Lola Getz (hey I think that’s a slant rhyme); singing by Claire Wellin; comedy by Leslie Lee; monologues by Roberta Miles, cabaret and fan dancing with Deb Webb; singing/dancing by Virginia Marie, standup comedy by Janet Kane; and finally piano playing and singing by Jen Stiarna. The lineups change every night so fans may want to attend multiple performances.
