In the last entry I lamented the lack of poetry in Pilsen (specifically at the 18th street art walk last weekend) which is one of my cultural (if not physical) home bases. Today I received an email about a fascinating sounding spoken word event that will take place this evening.
Pababra Pura Presents (which has a pleasingly alliterative name) is a poetry show has three distinguished performers tonight which will perform their works in both English and language. ) The internationally known performers are Laura Soldrzano (author of Boca Perdiota), Dolores Dorantes (author of a book with the catchy title sexoPUROsexoVELOZ and Jen Holfer (she translated that book and she also wrote her own poetry volume, Slide Rule) will perform along with some local writers.
The reading will occur at 7:30-11:40 at Decima Musa at 1901 S. Loomis.
**The email I received listed the date of the show as October 21 (which is today), but the publicity piece also says that the Palabra Pura show takes place every third Thursday, so you may want to call Decima Musa to make sure the event is tonight. I have seen a few other events at that restaurant (such as a book release party for Kari Lyderson and a concert involving my long lost friend Golden Elvis). The food and service there are excellent.
