I was recently at an Angeleno Magazine sponsored fashion party as part of the LA Art Show at the downtown convention center, and nestled at the bottom of my gift bag, beneath all the awesome Frederic Fekkai freebies (can we say full size samples and free blow out?) there was a beautifully-designed card depicting red sea coral, driftwood, fresh coconuts, vibrant succulents and dancing seahorses. Now being an island girl--Kauai represent!--of course these things are right up my nature-girl alley. So here I am weeks later, actually on Kauai and enjoying the glassy surf sessions and date-with-fate smoothies from Moloa'a fruit stand as well as having just finished a great book (Emile Zola's Therese Raquin), and out falls my book marker; said beautifully-designed card.

Well I've just been to Big Red Sun's website and let me say that I LOVE their aesthetic. But it was already imprinted upon my mind, etched into the deeper crevices (it goes pretty deep; abyss-like really) because I realized that my favorite Saturday strolling spot, Abbot Kinney, must be heavily designed by the Venice-based company. I recognized their signature succulent art pieces in the pictures from actual po-mo buildings along Abott Kinney. They do design, furniture, landscaping, art, apparel, you name it, they will create it.
