Traditional shamanic and other cultures remind us that death,
far from being morbid or scary, is really a wake up call for us to live now.

Your death can help you live. If you truly understood you could die at any moment, you would be a lot happier right now.

You would appreciate what you already have much more and little slights and annoyances that get to you, would quickly melt away.

The sudden and surprising death's of MJ, pitchman Billy Mays and Farah Fawcett have reminded all of us here today, gone tomorrow. So how are you being today?

Death helps us party down

Yo wassup Big D? High five. It is the traditional shamanic way that death, far from being the dreaded foe, is really our friend because it helps clarify who we are, what we want and how we choose to live.

In the face of my death, my daughter becomes even more beautiful, my anger at my wife becomes laughable. I go for more of what I truly want that will make me happy, like writing blog columns that hopefully help others.

Thrilled to be friggin' alive

I was looking at my daughter Jaslyn the other day and a thought flashed in my mind. What if something tragic happened to her and she was gone. Disease, hit by a car. After that gut-wrenching feeling, I felt gret. Elated, like a weight was lifted.

I thought how fortunate I am to have her now. I'm going to waste as little time as possible getting angry or upset at her and appreciate every moment with her as much as I can. Will I still get mad occasionally? No doubt, but as long as I remember it can all go away at any moment, I get perspective, I'm happy now.

If you knew you were going to die in 10 minutes, what would you do differently? Who would you call and end feuds with? How much anger would you let go?

Let Michael, Billy and Farah, and your own death remind you to celebrate your life right now.
