medical intuitive, massge therapist, energy worker Arly Fox-Daly
Medical intuitives like Arly Fox-Daly (above), "read"
a person's energy field to diagnose mental, physical
and spiritual causes of illness and disease.

I don't really know what happened. My first session with medical intuitive/energy healer, Arly Fox-Daly was like four years of college in a two hour session. I laughed, I cried, it was better than Billy Elliott.

What's it like to go to a medical intuitive/energy healer? In one session, I got insights into my life and my patterns of behavior that were amazing, startling and familiar all at once. I walked out of there feeling better, lighter, refreshed and raw, like a good soul scrubbing at a spiritual spa.

A growing trend in wellness

According to a study by the National Institutes of Health Center for Alternative Medicine, visits to energy healers were up 20% to an estimated 1.2 million visits from 2006 to 2007, the latest year for available data and is likely to be even higher now.

How it works

Energy healing is not like Western Medicine where you can point to your arm and say, "it hurts here."

Energy healing is a holistic approach that sees the entire person; mind, body and spirit and intertwined.

Many energy healers combine therapies such as acupuncture or massage or they may also be medical doctors, nurses, Ph.d''s.

Nearly all use a non-invasive treatment that taps the power of intuition and Higher Insight to read a person's energetic field - the total output of mental and physical energy, best known in the West by the Chinese term - chi - .to suggest corrective actions and bring healing and wholeness to clients.

Archangels, star charts and lemon oil

I wanted to find out for myself what this was all about. And unless you’re familiar with  past lives, star charts and channeling of the archangels, some intuitives methods may sound strange. They did to me and yet my experience with Fox-Daly rang true and blew me away so many times that, by the end, I felt like Sonoran sand in a wind storm.

After meeting her in a non-descript Manhattan office, Ms. Fox-Daly said she would not be doing medical intuition on me, but suggested instead I stand a few feet away from her so she could “read” my energy and report what she found.

“I just get the messages, like a though,t and speak or act them. You may hear me using your words,” she said.

Ok, fine. I went in willing to be open to whatever.  I put the skeptic outside the room for now and just decided to let it flow.

I was a General in a past life

FD began with a brief centering ritual that involved breathing exercises and connecting to the larger Universe and her spirit guides.

“The first word I’m getting is ‘protection,’ does this mean anything to you?” I tried to stay as non-committal as possible, I didn’t want to influence the proceedings. In my mind, I was thinking, "ok, but this stuff  could apply to anyone.."

“You need to feel protected, you also are willing to cut people’s heads off” and she started making a chopping motion with her hands. “You were a general once, maybe World War I? You tank rolled over people.”

As she continued to get more detailed however, it seemed she knew me pretty damn well. At times she seemed as amazed as I was as to what was she was relating to me.

The general thing was particularly interesting because in a guided visualization I took last year to visit a possible past, I was a former soldier who had enough of fighting and was now working as an executioner. Nothing personal dude, it's just my job.

Relationship issues with my wife

When she talked about relationship issues with my wife, I cried. She was dead on about our need for better communications and what needed to be done to correct them. Not bad for never having met my wife. And I did and am implementing them, as yes, things are better.

And whether or not I was literally a general in a past life or this was more an energetic metaphor, I've been accused in this life of emotionally tank rolling over people.

Women in past relationships especially have accused me of being “dictatorial," a "Terminator," and and emotional “bin-Laden.” But I'm much better now, I swear.

Fox-Daly also confirmed it is my path to know the pains of love so I can help others through it too.

What's really going on here?

A cynic might say, “well she’s just really good at reading people.” Or, “she said general things until she hit upon stuff you agreed with.” Fine, if  that’s all that happened, then she is still an excellent reader of people and her insights are exceptional.

You don't have to see, smell or touch oxygen for it to still work for you

Based on my own personal experience,  I am happy to accept a combination that she is a keen reader and a channel for a larger energy. And in my experience, we all have this latent ability to varying degrees.

For me, a good healer like a good artist, is present to what already is and allows it to flow through; is a channel for a Bigger awareness.

Fox-Daly charges on a sliding scale for students and those with demonstrated need. Most sessions run about an hour.

Allopathic Medicine vs. Holistic Medicine

Traditional allopathic medicine, i.e Western/scientific medicine, tends to view illness as something that happens to you, either because of viruses or genetics and as something that needs to be "fixed.," often with drugs.

Holistic medicine takes a much broader overview that illness is the result of psychological and emotional states that affect the natural balance of a person's physical and energy bodies.

As medical intuitive and author Carol Ritberger says, "illness is the soul's way of bringing attention to the obstacles blocking the evolutionary process."

The medical intuitive's goal is to discern these obstacles and bring them to the attention of the client.
