Families of special needs children have banded together to produce, " Healing," a new exhibit in Long Beach. The exhibit debuted on October 2.  The photos consist of 17 families and chronicles their experiences with special needs ranging from autism, behavioral disorders and cleft palate.

The proceeds from the exhibit will go to Stramski Children's Developmental Center at Miller Children's Center in Long Beach, a clinic for special needs children.

The exhibit is of photography by Linnea Lenkus and will debut publicly on Friday, October 10 at Phantom Galleries LA, 390 E. 3rd Street in Long Beach. What makes Phantom Galleries LA unique is that vacant storefronts and windows as well as available retail space are transformed into art galleries.

From Lenkus website, "I started looking for a project to take on so that I could give back to my community, one that would blend the three great concepts in my life: family, art and charity. When I found the Stramski Center in Long Beach, California I knew that I had found a perfect match, a project that would resonate with me."

The project is part of a larger arts effort by the city of Long Beach, called GLOBAL, Greater Long Beach Arts Lab.

A book of the photographs is available both at the gallery and online.  The cost is $90.

Lenkus has three children of her own.  None of them have special needs.
