So Band Slam is now in the theaters. I've seen the previews and felt the build-up and buzz.
But when my daughter insisted that I go see this film with her, I really wanted to take a pass. I just wasn't in the mood for yet another High School Musical or Hannah Montana movie. Actresses Vanessa Anne Hudgens and Alyson Michalka are Disney stars, so I was expecting something Disney-esque.
"It's not what you think, Mom!" my kiddo promised. Considering that 13-year-olds soon become 16-year-olds and cease inviting their mothers anywhere, I decided to google showtimes and head to the Cinemark.
How nice to be wrong!
This movie was simply excellent! The music was intense. The plot was compelling. And Lisa Kudrow's portrayal of a single mother agonizing over the social injustice heaped upon her son (convincingly played by Gaelen Connell) was touching.
Recommendation? Take your 'tweens and teens and get ready for a pleasantly artistic and totally rock-worthy movie! I loved it so much that tomorrow my daughter starts guitar lessons (again).
