Have you ever wanted to custom print your own scrapbook album covers? Or searched through racks of t-shirts to find the perfect shirt that expresses you and how you feel about your scrapbooking, stamping, or other passions? Well, Yudu to the rescue!
Provo Craft has done it again – created an innovative product that can be used for a multitude of crafting projects. The Yudu is a do-it-yourself, screen printing system. You can use Yudu to silk screen images or words on wood, canvas, albums, cardstock, metal, and fabric.
Luckily, great craft artist continue to try screen printing on various different materials. Jennifer Perkins screen printed directly onto record albums! How cool is that?
You can design your images directly onto the emulsion sheet with a permanent marker; use your computer to create a design, words, or photos and print onto a transparency with an ink-jet printer; or create patterns or cut images on your Cricut to create the designs you want to silk screen.
Yudu is perfect for anyone who has always wanted to do their own screen-printing at home, but was turned off by the expense or amount of complicated equipment and space involved in traditional screen printing.
The product development team at Provo Craft hit a home run when they created this affordable all-in-one screen printing machine with a large screen printing area of 11” x 14”.
The Quick Start instructions included are straightforward, but watching someone demonstrate on video makes it easier to follow. The demo DVD included was amusing to watch, but I found the step-by-step tutorial video series much more helpful. It is also a good idea to read the FAQs prior to creating your first screen print.
There are a lot of Yudu video tutorials on the Internet, but I found Erin Bassett’s Emulsion 101 tutorial about how to put Yudu emulsion on your screen and then burn a design the most informative.
The Yudu is not hard to use, but there is a little bit of a learning curve. Surprisingly, it is not messy to use. There was not a spec of paint on my Yudu after using it – amazing!
I must admit, like most of the inventive products created by Provo Craft, this one can also be addictive. Once you Yudu (yes, it’s also a verb), you start seeing the possibilities for screen printing everywhere you look – bookcases, dominos to make jewelry, notebooks, dress shirts, jeans, …the possibilities are endless!
Yudu allows you to unsilence yourself and let the world know who you really are, what you’re about, and what you want to express.
Yudu retails for $299.99, but is often on sale at your local AC Moore, JoAnn and Michaels craft stores. You cannot use store coupons to purchase the Yudu, but JoAnn stoes will allow you to use the coupon on Yudu supplies (they do the same with Cricut accessories, too). The Yudu machine and supplies can also be purchased on Amazon and at other online retailers.
There is so much that you can do with a Yudu. What will you do with your Yudu?
