Disney's fireworks are extra magical on July 4th. (c) 2009 Noah Ravitz

Walt Disney World's 4th of July fireworks display at the Magic Kingdom is even more exciting than Disney's regular fireworks show, Wishes. Multiple blasts are synchronized to music and can be seen from miles away. The best views are found inside the Magic Kingdom, but guests can also see the fireworks from locations across from the Magic Kingdom, including the monorail line resorts. Although the Magic Kingdom is not the only Disney park that offers special Independence Day fireworks, it has the largest and most sensational display.

The fireworks are so spectacular that the Magic Kingdom is expected to close its gates to the public early in the day, should the park reach capacity. It is possible that the other parks will also close their gates at different points in the day, depending upon park attendance. Guests heading to the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney's Hollywood Studios (Disney-MGM Studios), and Animal Kingdom will see special signs on the road alerting guests when (and if) the gates close. Because the parks often reach capacity on holidays such as the 4th of July, park hopping is not recommended. The best plan is to arrive at the park early and then stay put to enjoy the fun.

Traffic tip:  After the 4th of July fireworks show, it is not uncommon to spend an hour or longer exiting the park. The 4th of July is one of those days when the line for popcorn or a Coke can span 20 or more guests at a time, and the wait time for the most popular rides can exceed two hours.

If you plan to head to the parks on the 4th, be sure to follow these tips:

  • Take sunscreen and a hat, and wear comfortable shoes and clothing.
  • Be prepared to spend some time standing in line.
  • Leave home or the hotel early so you can make it in before the gates are closed.
  • Check out President Barack Obama's debut at the Hall of Presidents in the Magic Kingdom.
  • Agree upon a place to meet should you become separated from your party.
  • Make reservations at a table service location for lunch and/or dinner so you can escape the crowds and sit down for a bit. Call 1-407-WDW-DINE to make reservations, or make reservations on the Walt Disney World website.
  • Watch the fireworks near the park exit so you can avoid the mass exodus after the show.
  • Have a fun and patriotic 4th of July!
