As the H1N1 virus (swine flu) continues to escalate across the United States, the Walt Disney World resort is beginning to take steps to combat the spread of the virus at its theme parks.
Disney plans to erect hand sanitizer stations at select high-traffic areas throughout its theme parks, according to the official Disney Parks Blog. These locations include the entrance areas to Disney's theme parks, where Disney requires guests to place their index finger on a touch pad scanner that is not cleaned between each use; Disney's resort hotel lobbies; and character meet-and-greet locations.
Additionally, Disney has stepped up its routine cleaning of what it describes as "high-touch" surfaces such as water fountains and telephones. Disney will also distribute swine flu prevention tips to park guests.
Nonetheless, guests would be wise to travel with personal hand sanitizer, which is available for purchase at the theme parks. Tens of thousands of guests from around the world visit each Disney World theme park daily, and guests will inevitably come into contact with contaminated surfaces.
