Cruise ship, The World, set to call in at Friday Harbor July 5th and 6th.

The luxury residential  ship, The World, will be dropping anchor in Friday Harbor this holiday weekend.  Expected in the harbor on July 5th, The World will depart sometime the next day for a number other ports in the inland waters of northwest Washington and southwest British Columbia.

The World is a 644-foot, 12 deck, cruising vessel with a twist.  The passengers on this ship own or rent apartments aboard.  Unlike destination-specific cruise ships, The World continually sails to ports, large and small, around the globe.  Though the ship could easily accommodate more than 600 passengers, there are rarely more than 200 residents on board.

Like most luxury ships, The World offers fine dining, spas, heated swimming pools and other amenities passengers expect on luxury cruises.  But because The World is a floating community of fully equipped private homes, it also has a grocery store, deli, tennis court, extensive library, museum and selection of restaurants.

The ship is managed by ResidenSea Ltd, which is based in Miramar, Florida, and is registered in The Bahamas.  Residents onboard the floating city represent an international community of approximately 40 countries.  Since it’s maiden voyage in 2002, the ship has been slowing circumnavigating the world visiting ports from Antarctica to Alaska, Korea to Friday Harbor.
