Please, if you are going to get a pet, no matter what type, commit to taking care of its needs – always.

As a groomer, I have experienced several heartbreaking situations, unfortunately. Yesterday was one of those days. A "customer" brought in her two dogs for a grooming, thirteen year-old Shih Tzus. One dog was last groomed 18 weeks ago, the other had not been groomed because its body is bald!

Wow! The matting on both (yes, even the dog with little fur was matted) was disgraceful. The excuses, by the customer, started. "Well, I was waiting for the bald one to grow back enough to bring both in at the same time, for a groom." "I work and can’t get in to the groomers." (Our shop is opened six days a week).

While I was shaving down the first dog, I could barely get a 10 blade through the matting. On both dogs, the ears were full of fur and infected. The pads were so overgrown with fur and the nails were so long, I was surprised they could walk at all. We had to shave their muzzles (my husband and I) as short as a poodle’s muzzle to get through the mess, and I don't know how they were able to see with the overgrown eye and topknot area.

While working on the bald dog, it looked at me with such sad eyes, I began to cry and I held it against my chest, stroked his head, and talked to him. He cuddled against me in such a way that led me to believe that this poor guy didn’t know what love felt like!
