Grandparents play such a vital role in the lives of our children. And yet, so often, we as parents (and their children) are remiss in appreciating them.
So here are a few simple ways to keep our parents - our children's grandparents and best buds - happy.
1. Allow your children to get to know and become close to your parents. Be the link between the generations because the young and the old have so much to learn from each other. Even if they live far away from their grandparents, there are so many ways to build lasting bonds in the family.
2. Ask if, but don't assume that, your grandparents can assist you with babysitting and other family oriented tasks on your schedule. Repay them by taking tasks off of their to-do lists.
3. Even if you don't agree with what they're doing with your kids, before you voice your disapproval, think about the consequences of their actions. If there are no long term consequences to your child or your family, let it go.
4. Teach your children to respect and value their grandparents as the elders of their tribe. Do not let your children hear you disrespect your own parents, especially if you count on your parents to help with taking care of your children.
5. Acknowledge them on Grandparents Day for being a tremendous part of your children's lives.
