Having been recognized as a leader in the field of stem cell research, the State University at Buffalo has recently been awarded with $4.9 million dollars in long term funding.
New York State Stem Cell Science (NYSTEM) recommended the university for the funding which is a part of a ten year, $600 million dollar investment by New York State.
The university has been studying the potential of stem cells to create new tissues and help cure diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer's, and Parkinson's.
Kenneth M. Tramposch sees the funding as a compliment to the university's dedication:
"It says a lot about UB and its level of research when we are recognized as a top of the line research university. When our own faculty wins so many awards on such a competitive topic says a lot. Being that we're able to contribute so much is very gratifying,"
The National Institutes of Health's announcement of new guidelines for stem cell research which was made at the request of President Obama.
