Three Kings Day is a Christian holiday which is usually celebrated on January 6th. It is said to commemorate the visit by the three wise men to the baby Jesus. It also represents the end of the twelve days of Christmas and signals an end to the Christmas season.
Many cultures celebrate the day with gift giving and celebrations. It is particularly popular among many Spanish speaking countries where traditionally, children leave their shoes out the night before or leave grass for the wise men's camels. They wake up the next morning to find that presents have been left for them.
In the United States, many people of Latino descent continue the tradition and celebrate the day with family gatherings, gift giving and parades.
Mona Molasky, the New York City Life Examiner, has written about the New York City celebration and has provided itineraries and useful links which include the East Harlem Parade where thousands of children walk with the Three Wise Men, stilt walkers, and colorful puppets.
