Slam poet, Taylor Mali knows quite a bit about what it is like to be a teacher, having spent nine years in a New York City classroom. Mali's eloquent and forceful recitations have earned him a place among the top performance poets in the world. He has authored several books, makes numerous public appearances, and still works closely with schools bringing inspiration and a love of the written word to school communities.
In the following clip titled, "What Teachers Make," Mali uses poetic form to discuss why teachers do what they do, and what they really "earn" from their jobs. It is particularly popular among educators and is often used for motivational purposes.
