On the heels of a very busy weekend where Strikeforce held a Challenger Series event in Fresno, CA on Friday night, then the CBS-broadcasted "Fedor vs. Brett Rogers" event in Chicago on Saturday night, the organization is gearing up for another big fight card. On December 19th, Strikeforce returns to its home base of San Jose, CA to host "Evolution," which will feature another assortment of international MMA stars.
Former Strikeforce Middleweight champion, Cung Le, will face Scott "Hands of Steel" Smith in what should be a good old fashioned donnybrook. Le is one of the more technical strikers in MMA, while Smith packs a ton of power and generally stands in front of his opponents until one of them falls down. I expect fireworks.
Former UFC Middleweight star, Matt "The Law" Lindland, will have a very tough challenge in Brazilian submission specialist, Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza. Lindland is an excellent wrestler, while Souza is one of the best submission fighters in the world. American fans may not be as familiar with him, but he's racked up a highlight reel of victories internationally. It's going to be very interesting to see how each fighter approaches this match-up. Their respective game plans are usually very predictable, but given the fact that both have strong-yet-opposite ground games, I'm wondering if they won't try the stand-up game a little more than usual.
Undefeated light heavyweight "King" Mo Lawal will make his Strikeforce debut and popular middleweight Robbie Lawler will also be in action. Their opponents have yet to be announced.
Strikeforce "Evolution" will be broadcast live on Showtime.
