Welcome summer in Seattle with yoga events you won’t want to miss.

If you haven’t already seen, Enlighten Up!, it is playing at the Varsity Theatre through June 4th, so you only have a couple days left. This documentary, by filmmaker and yoga practitioner Kate Churchill, takes a 29 year old yoga skeptic New York journalist, Nick Rosen, across the globe to meet master yoga teachers like B.K.S. Iyengar and Pattabhi Jois. Instead of transforming into a “believer”, Rosen grows and learns in more subtle ways than expected. Skeptical yourself? Visionsofcody.net offers a thorough review.

Taj Yoga studio (tajyoga.com) is offering two very different events:

•Sunday, June 21st is the summer solstice. Join Laura DeFreitas in her annual celebration of the longest day of the year. Honor the life-giving energy of the sun in this ancient form of body prayer. Surrender to the rhythm of 12 sets of 9 Sun Salutations and leave feeling cleansed, clear and ready for some sunshine. This workshop runs from 10am-12:30pm and the cost is $35. Pre-registration is required.

July 13-17, Theresa Elliott is offering her 4th annual vinyasa intensive, focusing on yoga dance. Study asana transition in a contemporary and stylized way. Fundamental sequences will be studied and used as the basis for yoga choreography set to music. The series will conclude with a performance on Friday, July 17 and will include a new work in progress performed by Theresa. No dance experience required. See segments from the last series, The Dance of Yoga in the Taj Video Gallery

Five years of asana practice or instructor consent is required to participate.
